Submittable Eligibility Form
01
Context
Design a feature that would prevent users who are not eligible from submitting an application. If the submitter is eligible then they will have access to move forward with the submission process.
Currently, many org users use various difficult workarounds to put up eligibility “gates.” If a submitter runs into one of these gates, they still see the Submit button and are able to submit the application. When they do not click Submit, their submission stays in draft form, making the org unable to accurately send out the draft submission message, as it will end up reaching ineligible submitters.
02
Design Approach
User research was conducted by approaching users who pain-points were these complicated eligibility gates. Feedback was taken and a set of user stories were created. These key objectives came out of the stories and feedback:
Allow orgs to add an eligibility step to a project so they can only receive submissions from eligible applicants.
Allow orgs to display a custom message to applicants that are not eligible so the applicants can know why they cannot submit their application.
Allow orgs to view the answers to the eligibility step with the application so that orgs do not have to ask the same questions in both the eligibility step and application.
Allow GuideStar to be used in the eligibility step so that only legitimate applicants can continue to the application.

Designs
Based on the feature requirements, design was accomplish and iterated on through a series of wireframes, low-fi and hi-fi mocks. These took into consideration valuable feedback from key stakeholders in the company and a collaborative effort from the product team. We were also able to design for future product workflows that are slated for development in the coming quarters.
